In his own words... "People call me the Lureman because I make all the lures I use. From spoons and jigs to soft plastics and wooden plugs, my endless tinkering has been a source of fascination. Imagine taking a raw piece of wood, and, after a bit of carving and finishing, having a big smart fish judge your work by eating it. That does something for me.
After 45 years of fishing Florida waters, a few observations have stuck in my mind. One is that, except for periods of extreme heat or cold, the big fish I am after spend most of their time in shallow, often obstruction-filled waters. Using topwater lures is a very exciting and productive way to fish these areas. It is my favorite. Never completely satisfied with factory lures, I began designing my own with several things in mind. A lure should be versatile and offer a variety of retrieves. It should be of a shape and weight to cast true into the wind. Fish must want it.
After the trials of many prototypes, the Weedeen was born. It, along with my adaptation of the long deceased Vampire Minnow, the DJ Vamp, has the versatility to cover almost any situation with any game fish. They have traveled from Canada to Costa Rica and all the way to the South Pacific catching numerous species along the way.
In the past few years, I've created the Super Cedar, the Finger, the Byte Me, the DJ Darter, and the DJ Shiner expanding my collection of offerings. As a fishing guide, my success depends upon finding fish my customers can catch. With a little instruction, even the inexperienced have made their first exciting topwater catches with these lures. Imagine what you can do."
